I really liked the first three books of The Luxe series.Set in New York City at the turn of the century, the Luxe series chronicles the lives of several socialites. Splendor continues the story of Diana Holland and her search for her love, Henry. Her sister Elizabeth has been married off to a family friend. The ever-conniving Penelope continues to think up new ways to be the society hostess with the mostest. The lowly Carolina continues her charade as a socialite in order to marry a rich eligible bachelor.There is social manoeuvring, cattiness, and stories of love and betrayal. The social conventions of that time seem very bizarre to us today, but imagine a world without cars, phones, readily available electricity, and computers. Women were not allowed out without a chaperone. Womens' social status was gauged by their marriagability.I wanted to like this book, I really did. After all, I liked the earlier books. I felt that while this book did tie up the loose ends, it just seemed unsatisfying to me. The story felt slow and it frustrated me. I hated how Diana's story ended.
