For fans of Kristen Callihan’s Darkest London series, Moonglow is an engaging read. Set in Victorian London, Moonglow focuses on Daisy, Miranda’s sister. Widowed the previous year, Daisy has finally finished her period of mourning for her despicable late husband. Daisy enjoys her first opportunity to go out in public when she notices that her hostess is missing. Outside, she is startled to find her hostess being eaten by a large, furry creature.Enter Ian – remember him from the previous book? Ian or Lord Northrup was not that likable in Firelight, but I digress. Ian rescues his damsel in distress and brings her to his home to recuperate. Conveniently, Ian is a doctor even though he has not practiced medicine in a while. Ian feels an attraction for Daisy and feels the need to protect her. What follows is an exquisitely slow romance. To complicate matters, Daisy’s sister Miranda is not too keen on Daisy being near Ian. Miranda knows Ian too well and is afraid that Daisy will get hurt. Ian has some complications of his own. He’s the rightful Alpha of Clan Ranulf but does not want to claim the position. There is also a man-eating werewolf on the loose, wreaking havoc on the streets of London. To make matters worse, the werewolf is tracking Daisy’s scent, her own brand of perfume.Daisy and Ian were an interesting couple. While their passion did not rival that of Miranda and Archer, they were lovely together. Ian was protective of Daisy. I enjoyed their banter and found it entertaining. I also liked how they worked together. I liked that Daisy was not dependent on her man. Being with Craigmore taught her to look after herself and she was quite resourceful. Moonglow is a nice mix of historical and paranormal romance. This is a world filled with all sorts of supernatural beings. There is even a Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals which I found fascinating. The werewolf lore is interesting and a little bit different from the usual. While this book focused on werewolves, there were a few other intriguing supernatural beings. I liked how the characters’ abilities are revealed. The author keeps the reader guessing throughout the book. The addition of the Ghost in the Machine (GIM) was a clever way of adding just a touch of steampunk to the narrative. If you enjoyed Firelight, Moonglow is a must-read. I can’t wait for the next book Winterblaze.Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy of this book. Review posted on Badass Book Reviews.
