The Mage in Black (Sabina Kane)

The Mage in Black - Jaye Wells 3.5 stars...The Sabina Kane series is a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s not the best urban fantasy series out there, but it is entertaining for me so I continue to read it. Sabina is a kick-ass heroine, clad in the requisite leather, able to use all sorts of weapons at will. However, I find that the supporting cast of characters really makes the story, especially Gighul, Sabina’s Mischief Demon and minion. I can always count on him for a good laugh. The Mage in Black finds Sabina in New York City. Sabina is under the tutelage of Rhea, learning to use her chthonic mage powers. Apparently Sabina takes after her father Tristan and is quite the powerful mage. If only she knew how to use her powers. In the meantime, Lavinia is up to no good. Lavinia will not rest until all the mages are wiped off the face of the earth. She would also be happy with a war of the dark races. Sabina wants to defeat her evil grandmother, but she is also facing a few assassination attempts of her own. Back to Gighul for a moment. Gighul continues to provide excellent comic relief throughout the story. Whether it’s a new porn film he has discovered on the Temptation Network – Lawrence of the Labia or simply being his own mischievous self, Gighul rocks. Gighul as a fight star in Demon Fight Night was magnificent. There are some seriously exciting moments in this book. The battle scenes had me on the edge of my seat, especially the last scene…The next book is Green-Eyed Demon. I’ll be reviewing that one next.Review posted on Badass Book Reviews.
