Hallowed (Unearthly Series #2)

Hallowed (Unearthly Series #2) - 3.5 - 4 stars That’s it! I’m in love! Two of the nicest young adult boyfriends star in Hallowed by Cynthia Hand. First, we have Tucker, a down-to-earth (no pun intended!) human boyfriend. I think every girl dreams of Tucker: He’s an all-round, nice guy. Athletic, a cowboy, outdoorsy, big-hearted – Tucker is wonderful. So dreamy. Then there’s Christian, an angel blood. Christian is also gorgeous, loyal, and caring. Christian jokes about his protective impulses comparing himself to a certain sparkly character in another book. He is always there for Clara, understands her world, and is her support when she needs him. So how does a girl choose? This is one of the few young adult books that I’ve read where the love triangle did not make me want to pull my hair out. Both boys are perfectly suited for Clara. But Clara needs to make a choice and her decision process is quite mature for a teenager. This is an emotional book. It handles a life changing event in Clara’s world poignantly. Be prepared with a box of tissues, you’ll need it. The book gives the reader a glimpse of the angel community and how they rally around Clara and her family. I loved the idea of angels living in the mountains of Wyoming. It’s so easy to imagine the beautiful scenery with angels floating in the open skies. A few things were missing for me in this book. Clara’s brother Jeremy seemed like such an outsider in this book. I often wondered why he was kept on the periphery. I also wondered about Angela’s mysterious Italian boyfriend. No mention of him in this book. This is a beautifully written book and it stands out amongst others in the young adult genre. Cynthia Hand is a talented writer and I’m looking forward to the third book in this series. I want more!Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for a review copy of this book.Review posted on Badass Book Reviews.
