What a well written book! I did not want it to end....Gail Carriger creates her own version of Victorian England. It is a world where vampires and werewolves and ghosts coexist with humans. Alexia is very different from other girls of her time. She is bright, well-read, prone to tanned skin, part Italian, and she does not have a soul. She is a rare creature, a preternatural. Alexia carries a silver tipped parasol with her for protection. The characters are entertaining and imaginative. The dialogue was clever. The banter and the tension between Alexia and Lord Maccon was both passionate and fun. Alexia's uptight family provided some humorous moments. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
