This book will be a little hard for me to rate. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. It was an OK read for me. I started it this summer and put it down because it just wasn't drawing me in. Then I picked it up this month and while I found the book slow and the main character dull I still felt compelled to continue.
I had to know if there was more to the main character Marta who was awfully bland and lived just to please her much older husband. I just couldn't get into Marta - she could recite the entire "How to Be a Good Wife" manual by heart but her heart really wasn't into it. The narrative is punctuated by passages from this book and some of the advice is incredibly irritating. The husband Hector was irritating and condescending.
I guess I was waiting for a plot twist or some sort of action. Instead, the narrative just went on and on. This is not to say that this a badly written book - it just was not my cup of tea.
