The Naturals has a really neat premise. Imagine Criminal Minds for young adults. The Naturals are a crack team of teenagers with special abilities who are being trained by the FBI to solve cold cases. Each of these teens has some kind of talent in reading crime scenes: the ability to profile, analyse, or use the powers of deception.
The story revolves around this group trying to solve the case of a serial killer. The reader gets a glimpse inside the killer's demented mind and it is rather creepy. The killer is escalating and it is up to The Naturals to solve the crimes before it is too late.
I liked this story and I'm hoping that this is the start of a new series. The characters were likable and I loved how they worked together to analyze the crime scenes. I did find the mystery easy to guess however, I was surprised by the plot twist at the end. Well played.
For those who are annoyed by love triangles in young adult books, there is one, however I did not find that it annoyed me enough to ruin my experience of this book. I'd recommend this book to both male and female young adult readers.
