Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side - Beth Fantaskey Jessica is a teenager living in rural Pennsylvania with her vegan parents. She finds out that she was adopted and is now expected to marry Lucius, a vampire prince.Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side started off as an amusing little read. I liked how Lucius was introduced. I thoroughly enjoyed Lucius' letters home to his uncle. His observations on the American teenagers' lives were witty and entertaining. His diatribe on the lowly lentil made me laugh:The lentil is perhaps the world most versatile, indestructible food. One can eat the lentil unadorned; marry it off to its first cousin, the oafish "bulgur"; or attempt to drown it in harsh vinegar for a "vegan salad." But the lentil, alas, will always survive. The book contained the usual teenage angst, complete with the beauty queen character (Faith) who competed for Lucien's attention, the town bully(Frank), the jock (Ethan), and Jessica's potential boyfriend (Jake). Jessica's parents were doting and loving, but a little too alfalfa for my tastes. About two-thirds into the book, the story shifted and lost most of it's uniqueness. It was hard to finish reading and it felt repetitive. In all a quick, amusing read, a little slow near the end.
